A terrible, terrible photo of a Hawfinch at Sizergh Castle.
This was taken at 5.47am, an eye-watering time to be up.
After seeing plenty of Chaffinch beforehand, and trying hard to distinguish whether any of them were in fact a Hawfinch, it was memorable, comical even, when I got my first glimpse of a real Hawfinch. Damn, they’re chunky! And very distinctive. A beautiful bird.
